Globalisation of Scrap Trade and Circular Economies
My doctoral research followed Ghana’s scrap mining sites across Accra and Kumasi, national and international ports, international metal buying companies, global resource conferences, developmental agencies, and is based on an ongoing engagement with scrap dealers’ networks offline and online (I co-created a social media platform that unites 800 scrap dealers). I am currently translating the research into a manuscript provisionally entitled “Urban Mines: Ghanaian Scrap and E-waste amid a New Resource Frontier”.
Metal-Based Decarbonisation and Sustainability
My post-doctoral research is based in London’s metal markets and metal sector conferences and explores metal markets’ response to energy transition. The research focuses on the social and philosophical role of regulation in promoting sustainable futures in a sector characterised by histories of environmental harm.
Commodity Chains
I am fascinated by how global value chains shape local environments and labour relations.
